The Department of Psychiatry, Akash Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on 15th October 2025 as part of the observance of World Mental Health Day 2025. The event aimed to spread awareness about mental health and highlight this year’s theme – “CRISIS TO CARE – FROM BREAKDOWN TO BREAKTHROUGH.”
The program focused on the journey from mental distress to recovery, emphasizing empathy, awareness, and early intervention in mental health care.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Patrons — Mr. Amar Gowda, Vice-Chairman, AGI; Dr. Shiva Prakash, Dean & Principal, AIMS & RC; Dr. Naresh Shetty, CEO, AIMS & RC; and Dr. Brijesh K, Medical Superintendent — along with esteemed guest speakers.
The program began with a welcome address and an introduction to the theme by Dr. Suresh V C, Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, AIMSRC.
This was followed by insightful sessions by distinguished speakers:
Dr. Dinakaran, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS – “Psychosocial Impact of Disasters”
Dr. Sunil Patel, Professor and HOD, Department of Psychiatry, Sri Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences, Begur – “Psychiatric Emergencies in General Hospital Settings”
Dr. B. M. Suresh Badamath, Head of Forensic Psychiatry and Telemedicine Centre, NIMHANS – “Coping with Medical Negligence”
Dr. Mohan Sunil Kumar, Founder and Director, Augmenta Health (P) Ltd. – “Gen Z: In Crisis or Cruise Mode”
As part of the observance, the department also organized a Reels-making competition and a Photography competition with the themes “Teen Crisis in the Current Era” and “From Darkness to Hope.”
First-year MBBS students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity and awareness of mental health issues.
The CME and competitions witnessed active participation from faculty members, postgraduates, and students across departments. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks, appreciating the dignitaries, speakers, participants, and organizing team.
The Department of Psychiatry expresses heartfelt gratitude to the management and organizing committee for their continuous encouragement and support, and looks forward to conducting many more academic and awareness initiatives promoting mental well-being.
